On November 5, 1995, Minnesota Vikings Warren Moon and Denver Broncos John Elway quarterbacks became the sixth and seventh quarterbacks to accumulate 40,000 career passing yards.
Moon’s passing led the Vikings to a 27-24 victory over the Green Bay Packers at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He currently has the seventh most passing yards of all NFL quarterbacks with 49,325.
Moon started his career in 1984 with the Houston Texans. He went on to play for the Vikings, Seattle Seahawks and finished with the Kansas City Chiefs. His name was immortalized by the Football Hall of Fame with the class of 2006.
Moon’s childhood obsession with football led him to use a family friend’s address to attend Hamilton High School, where the program was superior to where he would attend with his own address.
Elway and the Broncos claimed a 38-6 victory over the Arizona Cardinals at Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colorado. He is sixth in the category with 51,475 career passing yards.
The Broncos picked him in the first round of the 1983 draft and stayed with the team until his retirement in 1998. He was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame with the class of 2004.
Elway was also drafted into Major League Baseball by the Kansas City Royals in 1979 out of high school and by the New York Yankees in 1981 while he was at Stanford University.
