A seven sack game

On November 11, 1990, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Derrick Thomas sacked Seattle Seahawks Quarterback, Dave Kriegrecord seven times in the 17-16 home loss.

Thomas had 20 sacks for the 1990 season. He is ranked tenth all time in a single season and 16th for career sacks.

Despite being sacked 9 times, Krieg walked off the field victorious and Kansas City’s Steve DeBerg was the losing quarterback.

Thomas played with the Chiefs for his entire 11 year career. The Miami native was acquired the Chiefs in the first round of the 1989 draft. The nine time Pro-Bowler was honored with awards like the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year 1989 and the Walter Payton Man of the Year 1993. He was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame with the class of 2009, after being a finalist the previous four years.

“He has outstanding quickness, if he gets an edge on you; he’s going to blow right past you.” – Andy Heck, Seattle Seahawks tackle after Thomas’ record-setting 7-sack day

“I don’t ever want it to be a question whether I’m a Pro Bowl-caliber player, I believe I’m the best at what I do, and it’s my responsibility to play like I’m capable of playing and help this defense as much as possible.” – Derrick Thomas after a game in 1997
